The City of Portland began service in June 1935 as Union Pacific’s second streamlined train. It initially ran as a seven-car articulated trainset, operating every third day between Chicago and Portland[20]. The train quickly gained popularity, convincing Union Pacific to expand its “City” fleet of streamliners.
